Fitbit recalls about 1.7 million ionic watches sold worldwide because the lithium-ion battery of the fitness product could overheat, posing a risk of burns, the Security Commission said on Wednesday. US Consumer Products.<\/p>\n

About 1 million of the smart watches recalled were sold in the United States to retailers, including Best Buy, Kohl’s, and Target, as well as online at Amazon.com and Fitbit.com from September 2017 through December 2021 for between $ 200 and $ 330 each. The San Francisco-based company has received at least 115 reports in the U.S. and 59 international reports on the overheating of the watch’s battery, with 78 reports of burn injuries in the U.S. and 40 internationally, according to the recall notice. These injuries include two third-degree burns and four second-degree burns. <\/p>\n

Consumers were urged to stop using Ionic smart watches and contact Fitbit to receive prepaid packaging to return the device, for which they will be refunded $ 299, according to the notice. Those returning products made in Taiwan will also receive a 40% discount code on other Fitbit devices. <\/p>\n

The withdrawal includes only the Fitbit Ionic smartwatch, sold with a polyurethane band and a 1.4-inch color LCD screen. The watches were sold in slate blue \/ burnt orange, charcoal \/ smoke gray, blue gray \/ silver gray and a special edition branded joint with Adidas in blue ink \/ silver gray.<\/p>\n

Used to track activity, heart rate, and sleep, the recalled clocks include the following four model numbers: FB503CPBU, FB503GYBK, FB503WTGY, and FB503WTNV. <\/p>\n

Wednesday’s withdrawal comes eight years after Fitbit recalled its Fitbit Force activity tracking bracelet after the company received about 9,900 reports of the skin-irritating bracelet and 250 blister reports. <\/p>\n
