The Australian, who beat Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi 7: 6 (7: 3), 6: 4, 4: 6, 6: 4, was his loud self during the game, even when he asked the chair umpire about […]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[54],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-53671","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-sport"],"yoast_head":"\nThe Australian, who beat Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi 7: 6 (7: 3), 6: 4, 4: 6, 6: 4, was his loud self during the game, even when he asked the chair umpire about the smell complained from the stands of the Louis Armstrong Arena. <\/p>\n“People don’t know that I have severe asthma, so if I’m running back and forth and already struggling to breathe, it’s probably not something I want to breathe between points,” he told reporters after the game.<\/p>\nThe referee reminded fans not to smoke on the pitch as play got back underway. <\/p>\n\nThe US Open crowd is known for being boisterous and the 27-year-old agreed the Grand Slam has a very different “vibe” to other tournaments.<\/p>\nCNN has reached out to the US Open over Kyrgios’ complaints about a smell of marijuana. <\/p>\nIt comes just over a week after wife Kyrgios, who is accused of drinking “700 drinks” and being “insanely drunk” during this year’s Wimbledon final, said she is suing the Australian tennis player for defamation.<\/p>\nKyrgios was usually animated on the New York pitch, mumbling to himself and berating his box between points. <\/p>\nHe was cautioned by the referee for berating someone on his team for not supporting them enough. <\/p>\nWhile his on-court antics were in full swing, so was his tennis. <\/p>\nTested by his talented opponent, Kyrgios demonstrated the devastating power and renewed mental strength that saw him reach his maiden Grand Slam final at Wimbledon in July. <\/p>\nHe meets American JJ Wolf in the next round but says his own good form is putting more pressure on him than normal. <\/p>\n“It’s so stressful now because every game I play I kind of expect to play that well,” Kyrgios told reporters. <\/p>\n“A performance that clean is not realistic in a sport like this where you play every day. I probably need to lower the expectation of playing like it’s a Wimbledon final every time. There are so many skilled players who can play.”<\/p>\n
