Content creators on subscription platform OnlyFans made nearly $4 billion (\u00a33.47 billion) in 2021, the company has announced. <\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The platform, known for hosting adult content, reported pre-tax profit of $433 million last year, up from $61 million in 2020.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

It comes after OnlyFans saw a surge in user numbers during the pandemic. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

However, it has been criticized for not doing enough to prevent minors from selling explicit content.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The company said it is continually improving its approach to security and content moderation. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    Founded in 2016, OnlyFans has 220 million users and more than two million creators worldwide. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    In 2021, the number of fans using the platform increased by 128% and the number of developers by 34% compared to the previous year. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    Overall, Creators’ earnings were more than twice as high as in the previous year. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    \n

    OnlyFans earns a 20% commission on all payments to content creators.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    \n

    CEO Amrapali Gan said, “We give creators the power to monetize their content and have real control over it.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    \n

    \u201cWe will continue to invest in the creator economy by improving security and developing original OFTV [the firm’s free streaming platform] content and continue to grow our community of developers and fans,” she added. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    \n

    The site offers musicians, fitness trainers and celebrities a platform to pay their followers for exclusive tips and visual content.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    \n

    But it’s best known for allowing content creators, including pornstars and sex workers, to charge for sexually explicit photos and videos.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    Last year, after pressure from banking partners, the company announced that it would ban all sexually explicit content from the platform. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    \n

    But after a backlash from its users, OnlyFans suspended the policy change a week later.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    \n

    In 2021, a BBC News investigation revealed that children had used fake IDs to set up accounts on the site. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    \n

    Following the report, the Children’s Commissioner for England said OnlyFans must do more to stop underage users.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
