A secondary school teacher has spoken about how being diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) at the age of 36 has helped the students she works with.<\/p>\n

Katie Roper, from Arnold in Nottinghamshire, was diagnosed with the behavioral disorder that affects concentration and focus in 2020.<\/p>\n

She’s developed a number of workarounds to help her, including lists, digital planners and phone alarm reminders, as well as a color-coded calendar.<\/p>\n

She said: “I’m really open about my diagnosis at work. My students are nice anyway \u2013 they really support me.<\/p>\n

“When I did meetings, students would come up to me and say, ‘Miss, I really liked your meeting. I think my brain might be like that.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Katie said she struggled with the condition during her own school days, but added, “I hope … the students I teach who have ADHD don’t have to experience the same struggles I did.”<\/p>\n
