Dizzee Rascal’s ex-fianc\u00e9e said ‘wealth and status’ shouldn’t silence women after the grime artist was found guilty of assaulting her.<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The rapper, whose real name is Dylan Kwabena Mills, assaulted Cassandra Jones at a property in Streatham, south London, in June.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Ms Jones said the 37-year-old’s guilty verdict gave her “no joy”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“It helps me to look back on what I experienced and have the courts recognize it as assault,” she added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court heard Mills “burst” into the property with his son under his arms on June 8 before “screaming and screaming” and banging his own head on the fridge three times.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

He then approached Ms Jones, “put his forehead against hers and pushed her around the room” and “then pushed her to the ground,” the court heard.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

In her sentencing, District Judge Polly Gledhill said Mills had lost her temper in a dispute over child and financial management.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

After his conviction, Mills smashed a photographer’s camera on the street outside the courthouse.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Ms Jones urged anyone else affected by domestic violence to contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

She added: “Dylan and I have been together for a long time and I loved him dearly. He is the father of our two children.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cFor the last year I have been receiving support from specialized domestic violence services and this has helped me process my experience and move forward.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cNone of this was easy. I understand why so many women are dropping out of the criminal justice system; that was really traumatic for me. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“But I was fortunate to have the support of the police, my family and friends, and professional organizations.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

She said the verdict against Mills in the assault case “shows that wealth and status can’t be used to silence women,” adding, “I hope I can get on with my life now.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n
