Presenter Martine Croxall is under investigation by BBC News for “possible breach of impartiality”.<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The PA news agency has also reported that Croxall has been taken off the air pending the conclusion of the investigation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Complaints followed on social media that she was showing bias when hosting Sunday’s newspaper criticism program.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

During her introduction, after Boris Johnson ruled himself out of the race for the Conservative leadership, Croxall told viewers she felt “glory”. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The program aired about 90 minutes after the former Prime Minister claimed he had enough support to advance in the Tory leadership race but decided to pull out.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

As The Papers program began just after 10:30pm on Sunday night, Croxall told viewers: “Well, that’s all very exciting, isn’t it? Welcome to our look at what the newspapers will bring us tomorrow. can i be that Happy? Well, that’s me.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

She was then seen asking her guests: “Can we even show you the covers anymore, have they arrived? No, they haven’t arrived. It’s all a bit, you know, lastminute.com, isn’t it? Because all the front pages were probably out of date when we got them.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

On Monday, a BBC spokesman said: “BBC News is urgently reviewing yesterday’s edition of The Papers on the news channel for a possible breach of impartiality. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIt is imperative that we maintain the highest editorial standards. We have processes in place to maintain our standards and those processes have been activated.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Croxall has not yet commented publicly on the matter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

One Conservative MP, Neil O’Brien, called the presenter’s comments “self-destructive”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Nick Timothy, a former adviser to former Prime Minister Theresa May, added: “Whatever you think of Johnson, if you care about the BBC you cannot believe that this is in any way acceptable from any of their presenters.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

It was not made clear by Croxall or the BBC whether she was referring to Mr Johnson’s withdrawal or the fast-moving news agenda.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

However, she told an onlooker<\/a> on Twitter to put their comments in context. She added that she will be returning to the airwaves on Monday night.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
