Train drivers from 12 rail companies will strike again as part of a long-running pay dispute, union leaders said.<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Up to 9,500 members of the Aslef union will move out on Saturday 26 November.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The latest industrial action follows four previous 24-hour strikes by drivers that have caused train services to be canceled and delayed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The union, which wants drivers’ wages to keep pace with the rising cost of living, said talks with the rail companies have stalled over a lack of salary offers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“We regret that passengers will be inconvenienced for another day. We do not want to take this action,” said Mick Whelan, Aslef Secretary General.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The railway industry has been hit by a number of strikes in the UK in recent months, with various unions representing different jobs staging walkouts, mainly over wage problems.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

      There are other issues related to job cuts and working conditions, but union bosses have said companies should pay their members more as food, fuel and energy prices are rising at their fastest pace in 40 years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

      Rail bosses have claimed they want to give workers pay rises, but companies and the government insist changes are needed to “modernize” the railroad, end some labor practices and save money.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

      In 2021, the average salary for train and tram drivers was \u00a359,189 per year. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

      Mr Whelan said if inflation – which is the rate at which consumer prices are rising – hit 10.1%, drivers would see real pay cuts.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

      “The train drivers who have kept Britain running during the pandemic are now expected to work just as hard this year as they did last year, but for less,” he added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

      “We want the companies – which are making huge profits – to offer a reasonable salary so our members can keep up with the cost of living.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
