Twitter accounts of several prominent journalists covering the company’s owner, Elon Musk, were abruptly suspended. <\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Reporters from the New York Times, CNN and Washington Post are among those banned from their accounts Thursday night.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

A Twitter spokeswoman told tech site The Verge that the ban is related to live sharing of location data. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

It comes after Mr Musk vowed to sue the owner of a profile tracking his jet. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The list of banned journalists also includes The Intercept’s Micha Lee, Mashable’s Matt Binder, and independent journalists Aaron Rupar and Tony Webster.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Ella Irwin, Twitter’s head of trust and safety, told The Verge that bans are related to a new rule introduced on Wednesday that restricts “live location information, including information shared directly to Twitter, or links to third-party URLs from Itineraries prohibited.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“Without commenting on specific accounts, I can confirm that we will suspend any accounts that violate our privacy policies and endanger other users,” Ms. Irwin told the outlet.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“We make no exceptions to this policy for journalists or other accounts.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

On Wednesday, Twitter suspended the @ElonJet account, as well as other accounts using publicly available information to track his private plane. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

@ElonJet owner Jack Sweeney, 20, also had his personal account suspended. Mr Musk has since vowed to take legal action against him as well as “organizations that have been supporting harm to my family”. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
