You will get a notification that it starts today. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<p >People in England, Scotland and Wales who have a smart meter are eligible. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<p >Customers receive a rebate if they reduce their power consumption between times set by National Grid.  On Monday the scheme runs between 17:00 and 18:00 GMT and on Tuesday between 16:30 and 18:00 GMT.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<p >You can save, for example, by delaying the use of your washing machine or tumble dryer or by charging your electric vehicle. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<p >According to National Grid, savings can range from a few pounds to as much as \u00a320, depending on the amount of energy used. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<p >There were initial concerns that the program would not generate enough interest due to the size of the discounts on offer.  But Craig Dyke, head of national control at National Grid ESO, told the BBC that in the nine tests so far, consumers have saved more energy than forecast. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<p >&#8220;For us, that tells us consumers are engaged,&#8221; he said. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<p >On Sunday, National Grid ordered three UK coal-fired power stations to start warming up if needed to generate electricity, but subsequently shut them down.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<div >\n<ul >\n<li>iPlayer: 10 questions about&#8230; energy bills<\/li>\n<li>Who can receive the current cost of living statements?<\/li>\n<li>Labor calls for extension of energy price cap<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<p >National Grid said &#8220;people shouldn&#8217;t be concerned&#8221; and the power supply is not at risk.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<p >BBC climate editor Justin Rowlatt said the fact that it was deemed necessary to warm up coal-fired power plants was a sign of how far the renewable revolution still had to go.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<p >So far, there are no economical grid-scale energy storage solutions that can carry the country through a period of cold weather coinciding with a lull in the wind, he said, and that&#8217;s unlikely to change in the coming years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<p >Last summer, the UK government urged coal generator owners to expand their use, fearing security of energy supplies following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<p >The boss of National Grid told the BBC last year that blackouts would be the last resort this winter as energy supplies run low.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<p >John Pettigrew said National Grid&#8217;s &#8220;base case&#8221; assumption is that the UK would have enough supplies to meet heating and lighting needs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<p ><b >Are you participating in the program today?
