A musician who did a Tik Tok duet with Ed Sheeran in lockdown said the singer told him he “sang it better”.<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Luke Gittins began recording covers and posting them on Tik Tok during the pandemic when he couldn’t play gigs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Shiver’s version of the 21-year-old was seen by Sheeran, who sang along to the cover of his hit song.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Mr Gittins, from Wiltshire, said: “He said I sang it better than he did… which was absolutely amazing.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

He started playing the guitar at the age of eight but didn’t really start playing until he was eleven when he performed a cover of Lego House from Sheeran’s first album.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Mr Gittins, from Chippenham, told BBC West it was the “first performance I’ve ever done and after that I was like, ‘Yes, that’s what I want to do'”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“All these years later, I’m still following it,” he added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The guitar teacher began recording covers of famous artists and uploading them to YouTube and TikTok as live venues were shut down by lockdown.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

He said he’s also been noticed by stars like Elton John, Alicia Keys and the Jonas Brothers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

But he always wanted to get Sheeran’s attention.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

On his 21st birthday last June, Sheeran’s account shared his cover of Bad Habits on Instagram Stories.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Then last October, Sheeran upped the ante and recorded how he reacted to a cover of Shivers that Mr. Gittins had recorded and uploaded to TikTok.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    Mr Gittins said: “Maybe Ed or someone on his team found it… and he did a TikTok duet with it.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    \u201cTechnically I can say that we sang online. He filmed his reaction and captioned the video ‘Love this guy’ – so I know he’s enjoying the music to some degree.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    “He’s such a great artist that I never thought I’d catch his attention. He’s the reason I picked up the guitar and started writing music.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    The unsigned musician said the recognition spurred him on and he’s since written 10 songs that he’ll hopefully share with Sheeran one day.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
