Buses due to leave Dover on Good Friday will be staggered over three days to avoid lengthy delays. <\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Port of Dover said a decision to spread the volume across Thursday, Friday and Saturday was made after discussions with ferry operators. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

It also said that a “temporary border control infrastructure” would be installed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) welcomed the move but said ferry companies also needed to improve advance information for travellers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The Port of Dover reported a critical incident last Friday after long queues of traffic tried to board the ferries. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Some bus passengers had to wait more than 12 hours.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The port said it was “very aware that last weekend was a terrible situation for many travellers, including the elderly and school children” and that making sure things get better this weekend was a priority .<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    Good Friday is expected to be the busiest day of the coming Easter weekend with departures from DFDS, Irish Ferries and P&O Ferries.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    The port said all three companies had “worked with their bus customers” to spread out traffic levels, which were expected to be a third lower than last weekend.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    Despite this, the French border police are expected to provide a full complement of staff.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    The port has advised bus and car drivers not to arrive too early to avoid queues and bottlenecks.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    \n

    The CPT, a trade body for coach and bus companies, said: “While traffic is being smoothed through the port this weekend with no vehicle restrictions, bus companies will be working with ferry companies to adjust departure times where possible.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
