A man tries to travel 515 km (320 miles) from Derby to Cornwall on 20 different bus routes.<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Andrew Cowell previously used a government-funded \u00a32 bus fare cap to travel from his home in Derby to Whitby in North Yorkshire. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Now he has set out with a plan that should get him to Penzance by Saturday night.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Mr Cowell took on the latest challenge to highlight the public transport initiative.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

He’s hoping to continue using as many of these price-limited services as possible as he makes his way to the Southwest.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

His journey began with a bus from his home in Allestree to Derby bus station, where he then took his second bus to Leicester city centre.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“It’s basically promoting the \u00a32 bus fare and that’s only because I’m a bit eccentric and it’s challenging,” he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Mr Cowell plans to spend all of Thursday traveling to Swindon on nine different buses.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

He will then make his way to Exeter on Friday before finally arriving in Penzance on Saturday after three full days of bus travel.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

This distance is more than double his previous performance of 220 km (137 miles).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

He said: “It was as far from Derby as I could get and I haven’t been to Cornwall in several years and I like the lure of the sea.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

All but one of the buses he wants to use participate in the \u00a32 fare system.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

It was introduced as a cost-of-living measure but was also intended to encourage people to get back on buses.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Earlier this month, a survey by the Transport Inspectorate suggested more people were using bus services following the rollout of the scheme, which is due to expire in June.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

In all, Mr Cowell expects his trip to cost \u00a339.50 with no additional food and accommodation costs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He said: “I wouldn’t suggest people do this as a practical way to get to Penzance, but to prove that we still have a national bus network and you can still actually use it.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
