Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has warned that artificial intelligence (AI) could make detecting fraud and misinformation more difficult. <\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Mr Wozniak says he fears the technology will be used by “bad actors”. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Speaking to the BBC, he said AI content should be clearly labeled and regulation is needed for the sector. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The computing pioneer co-signed a letter with Elon Musk in March calling for a pause in the development of the most powerful AI models. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Mr. Wozniak, better known in the tech world as Woz, is a Silicon Valley veteran who co-founded Apple with Steve Jobs and invented the first Apple computer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Speaking to BBC Technology Editor Zoe Kleinman, he shared both the benefits of AI and his concerns.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

He said, “AI is so intelligent that it’s open to the bad players, the ones you want to trick about their identities.” <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The term AI encompasses computer systems that can perform tasks that would normally require human intelligence. These include chatbots that can understand questions and respond with human-like answers, and systems that can recognize objects in images.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Mr Wozniak doesn’t think AI will replace humans because it lacks emotion, but he warned that he thinks it will make bad actors even more convincing because programs like ChatGPT can create text that “sounds so intelligent”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

He believes that whatever is generated by artificial intelligence and then made available to the public should be the responsibility of those who publish it: \u201cA human must really take responsibility for what is generated by AI. ” <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

He wants regulation to hold accountable the big tech companies that “feel like they can get away with anything.” <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

But he expressed skepticism that regulators would get it right: “I think the money-seeking forces usually win, which is kind of sad.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Mr. Wozniak was a pioneer of computing and says missed opportunities at the birth of the internet are lessons for today’s artificial intelligence architects. He believes “we can’t stop technology,” but we can prepare people to be better informed to spot fraud and malicious attempts to steal personal information. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Apple’s current CEO, Tim Cook, told investors last week that it’s important to be “thoughtful and thoughtful” in approaching AI: “We see AI as tremendous and we will continue to weave it into our products on a thoughtful basis.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
