Peloton is recalling more than two million exercise bikes over concerns the seat unit could break during use and injure customers. <\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Owners were advised to stop using the bikes immediately and contact Peloton for a free repair.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The company has received numerous reports of injuries, including “a broken wrist and lacerations” after the bike’s seat became detached during use. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The recall applies to bikes sold in the United States from January 2018 to May 2023. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The U.S. government’s Consumer Product Safety Commission issued the recall Thursday to warn owners of the risk of injury associated with bicycle model #PL-01.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Peloton issued a statement saying it had identified 35 reports of “broken seatposts” among the 2,160,000 bikes sold through April 30. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“As part of our commitment to product safety, we are voluntarily recalling seat posts from affected units to provide a free replacement seat post,” the company said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Peloton said members who purchased a bike in the UK, Germany and Australia would not be affected by the recall. The company is in talks with Canadian regulators and will provide an update to Canadian customers “in the coming days.” <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Peloton bikes have enjoyed great popularity during the pandemic after gyms closed to stem the spread of Covid-19. According to the company’s website, a basic Peloton bike costs $1,445 (\u00a31,154). <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

But the home workout retailer has weathered controversy over the years. News of the company’s recent voluntary recall sent shares of the company down more than 8% on Thursday. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In 2019, the company faced criticism for an ad campaign in which a husband gave his wife an exercise bike for the holidays.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“A year ago, I didn’t realize how much this would change me,” the woman says in the ad, before documenting her training journey. Critics on social media called the campaign “sexist” and even “dystopian,” and the backlash caused the company’s shares to plummet. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

A year later, the company recalled its treadmill model after a child died and more than 70 people reported injuries. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Then, in a shocking twist, Mr. Big, one of the fan-favorite characters on the HBO series “Sex and the City,” suddenly died of a heart attack after riding a Peloton bike. The news shook both fans and the company’s stock price, which fell more than 75% in 2021, according to CNN.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
