A second Canadian Navy was on a mission to support OTAN

HALIFAX – A second Canadian war navigator quit the port of Halifax for a six-month deployment in the Atlantic and Northern Europe waters to support OTAN.

The Halifax NCSM will be a member of the 1st OTAN Permanent Maritime Group (SNMG1) within the framework of the REASSURANCE Operation, “in support of OTAN’s dissolution measures in Central Europe and Eastern Europe”.

The NCSM Montreal had been deployed in January in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea.

The Halifax frigate has 253 crew members. It will be deployed with an integrated aerial detachment that will operate a CH-148 Cyclone helicopter

According to the Minister of National Defense, Anita Anand, the Halifax Contribution to OTAN’s dissolution measures will help Europe to “maintain its power and sovereignty”.

Ms Anand added that the frigate was helping Canada honor its commitments under the OTAN against the Russian invasion of Ukraine which it had “qualified and illegitimate”.
