Australian boxing superstar Billy Dib has won many fights in his great career. But last night’s victory over Jacob ‘The Flamingo’ NG was one of the strangest of them all, with NG disqualified for throwing a wrestling style that sent the veteran to the screen.
The 36-year-old Dib, a former two-time world champion, had promised to retire if he could not beat the 15-0 (11KO) NG, widely regarded as one of the hottest lightweight prospects in Australian boxing.
NG enjoys an 11cm height advantage over Dib and is nine years younger, but the exciting match was well suited for large segments of the action with both fighters engaging in some sublime exchanges.
But a heated rivalry boiled over on the Gold Coast when the couple engaged in a sixth-round clinch, only to lift NG’s rival and drop him on his back.

The referee shook his head as he left NG before a doctor was called to treat a sudden dib.
Fans were amazed at the movement, shouting loudly as the NG climbed around the ring while his opponent was injured.
Dib could not return to action, with NG disqualified for the illegal maneuver.
