Algeria is definitely accustomed to the bases of world rankings these recent times. The country is a new home for the last time in that which concerns happiness. Algeria occupies, in effect, the 96th place out of the 150 happiest countries in the world, according to the World Happiness Report (Global Report of Happiness) for the year 2022.
Thus, without surprise, Algeria, which is experiencing a serious multidimensional crisis, finds itself in a difficult place. This ranking, established each year by the Network of Sustainable Development Solutions of the United Nations (SDSN), classifies the countries in terms of GDP by resident, the hope of living in good health, the freedom in life choices, generosity, perception of corruption, as well as residents’ opinions.
Unveiled in 2022, the report covers the period from 2019 to 2021. It takes into account the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on global happiness. The report is also based on the opinions of the citizens on their life frame. During the polls, respondents were asked to indicate on a scale of 1 to 10 the degree of social support that they think they have in case of a problem, their freedom to make their own choice of life, their sentiment as to the corruption of their company or even their generosity.
Global happiness index: Algeria ahead of Morocco and Tunisia
For 2022, African countries in general are poorly ranked. In Africa, Algeria surpasses Morocco (100th) and Tunisia (120th). To the general surprise, Algeria is far behind Libya (86th according to 2019 data), which is still experiencing a delicate security situation. In this ranking, the Scandinavian countries still remain in the plazas premieres. The Nordic countries have carried out a raid since the creation of the report. Finland is the first to say that Denmark is second. In 3rd position, we find Switzerland. As for France, it reaches 20th place, its best ranking since the launch of this ranking. Canada is ranked 145th in the United States.
Concerning the queue of the tableau, Liban was followed by troubles and a serious economic crisis, both in the pre-last place, behind Zimbabwe and just ahead of Afghanistan, last year. It must be said that Algeria will gain 13th place this year compared to the year 2021.
