Moto3 races are always hectic and it took the 21 year old Italian a few laps to fight for the lead. This was the perfect way to get it right through the middle and even his teammates had no trouble catching that.
Foggia’s pace – which almost won the 2021 Moto3 World Championship – was super fast and tireless, until he was more than five seconds away. The situation was very different behind him, with up to 11 riders fighting for the place of victory.
Among that group was Andrea Migno (Rivacold Snipers Team Honda NSF250RW), who entered the race to lead the title pursuit after winning the season opener race in Qatar two weeks ago. The 26-year-old Italian was super riding, as hard to fight for the position as any of his rivals. Unfortunately, some collisions disrupted his progress and eventually another rider collided with him in the last lap, taking him out of the race without any guilt.
Honda’s victories with Migno and Foggia put the brand at the top of the 2022 Moto3 Constructors World Championship. Honda enjoyed great success in Grand Prix Racing’s smallest 125cc / Moto3 category, winning the trophy for the first time in 1961. This year, Honda pursued its 21st class design title.
Migno’s unlucky exit left Foggia’s new teammate Tatsuki Suzuki (Leopard Racing Honda NSF250RW) as Honda’s second finisher in tenth place, just two seconds behind a podium finish.
It was great fun for Honda rookies Scott Ogden (Visiontrack Racing Team Honda NSF250RW) and Mario Suryo Aji (Honda Team Asia Honda NSF250RW). The British 18-year-old and Indonesian 18-year-old finished the race in 13th and 14th place – very impressive performances by the youngsters, considering the speed of the race and the hot and strenuous weather conditions.
Aji was started from the front row of the grid after a surprising performance in yesterday’s qualifying session. He started well and gradually went down the order as his much more experienced rivals got him better. However, most importantly, he learned a great deal by riding so closely with such strong riders.
The Moto3 Paddock has one weekend off before heading to South America for the third round, the Argentine GP, on April 3rd.
