Evander Kane shot twice and Connor McDavid had a goal and a couple of assists as the Edmonton Oilers kept the longest active winning streak in the NHL alive with a 6-3 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday.

Leon Draisaitl, Tyson Barrie and Zach Hyman also scored for the Oilers (35-23-4), who won five in a row at a decisive home run.

Jesper Bratt had two goals and an assist and Nico Hischier also scored for the Devils (22-35-5), who have lost three in a row and four of the last five.

Edmonton started the goal just 1:11 in the first period. Devils goalie Jon Gilles seems to think he had the puck just to shoot Jesse Puljujarvi behind the net and send it forward to Draisaitl, who’s 41.

The Oilers came into the game with a 20-0 record when they first scored this season, the second-best mark in league history after the 1944-1945 Montreal Canadiens, which went 22-0.

The Devils tied it five minutes into the opening frame as Hischier sent Bratt into an outburst and he fired Oilers goalkeeper Mikko Koskinen for his 20th.

Edmonton got a surprising goal with 2:12 left in the second period as it looked like Gilles made a pad-save on a wrap-around attempt from Kane. The game continued for about 30 seconds before a horn sounded indicating that a review was needed – one that concluded that Puck had crossed the line.

The Devils equalized the game again just 26 seconds into the third period as Bratt overtook a puck that was out of the backboards in front of Koskinen and for his second of the game.

New Jersey took the lead at 3:14 as a big rebound came out on Hischier, who was left alone to slip a backhander into the net before Koskinen was able to cross.

The Oilers got a bad corner kick to put it up 3-3 in the third minute, when Barrie somehow slipped a shot over Gilles’ shoulder.

Edmonton then restored his lead eight minutes into the third on the Power Play as Kane found a loose puck in the slot and guided it for his second of the game in 12 goals in 23 games with the Oilers.

The oilers took a breather 49 seconds later when McDavid sent a pass that went off Hyman’s skate and into the net.

McDavid added an empty net to extend his goal history to five games, giving him 90 points this season.

Koskinen improved his last 14 starts to 11-1-2.

Oilers took to the streets Monday to pick up the avalanche in Colorado. The Devils come home to face the New York Rangers on Tuesday.
