Leicester 2-1 Brentford

Amazing goals from Timothy Castagne and James Maddison gave Leicester a 2-1 home win over Brentford, elevating them to the top half of the Premier League table.

Castagne had a dream come back after almost three months when he shot Leicester’s opener with a thunderous shot (20) from just outside the box, which was shot into the top right corner.

Thirteen minutes later, Maddison shot a beautiful curling 25-yard free kick that Brentford goalkeeper David Raya struck in the opposite top corner.

Brentford made a nervous finish after Yoane Wissa scored in the 85th.

But the Foxes held on to the 10th and are now on points with midfield rivals Aston Villa, who are above them on the goal difference in the ninth.

Meanwhile, Brentford remain eight points above the relegation zone with Watford, who have 17th place, one game in hand, while Burnley, who have 18th place, three games in hand on the Bees.

Castagne marks on return from injury

Leicester came into the game after losing their last two games, but received a surprise boost before the start as Castagne made his return to the Start XI, which was played last December.

The Belgian, who underwent thigh surgery, marked his comeback with a beautiful goal, which he left behind in misfortune as he celebrated his first goal of the season.

Maddison then shot a stunner of his own as his wonderful free-kick saw him become the Leicester top scorer in all competitions this season with 13 points.

Kelechi Iheanacho should have made it 3-0 seven minutes into the second half, but his chipped effort, as opposed to one with Raya, hit the outside post.

Brentford, who were without Christian Eriksen due to the coronavirus, were much improved in the second half and Leicester needed goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel to save them with some fine saves in six minutes.

First, the skipper acrobatically tipped over the header of Pontus Jansson (54), before rejecting Bryan Mbeumo’s header (60) from the spot.

Castagne lasted 64 minutes and was replaced by another defender who made his return from injury in Jonny Evans, who came for his first appearance since December 12th.

Flattery was eventually struck, but it took a great strike by Wissa to break his resistance.

The goalkeeper seemed to be injured in the final minutes as Brentford pushed on an equalizer, but the away side could not find the back of the net, extending their unbeaten run to three games.

The same day, Brentford take on West London rivals Chelsea, with play at Stamford Bridge starting at 3pm.
