EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE opened the 2022 Ohio Valley Conference softball season with some losses at Cougar Field, falling short of visiting Murray State.
The racers improved overall to 18-8, while SIUE dropped to 8-15. Murray State won Game 1 9-0 in five innings and then with an 8-0 victory in five innings.
“We certainly looked nervous and anxious for our first conference game,” said the SIUE Interim Head Coach PJ Finigan. “They are a good team that has taken it to us, and hopefully we will come back tomorrow.”
The third match of the season is scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
Murray State’s Logan Braundmeier and Chloe Jacque started the double-header with back-to-back hits. The Racers would not look back after the duo shot on a single by Gracie Osbron.
With 11 hits in Game 1 and 10 more in Game Two, the Racers kept up the pressure on offense while the Cougars stopped defensively.
SIUE had three hits in the opener and five more in the nightcap. Lexi Kingwho took the loss in the second game, had a hit in both games as well Jenna Herron.
