The Titans made another leap to form a formidable wideout duo.
Tennessee buys Robert Woods from the Rams for a sixth round in 2023, NFL Network Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported.
Los Angeles had acquired the veteran wide receiver after the signing of Allen Robinson, and the Titans were on the market for a No. 2 goal after Julio Jones released. It all landed on Tennessee to land one of the better sidekicks in football.
Woods shared go-to duties with Cooper Cup for four years before the last breakout season in 2021. The 29-year-old was in the middle of another productive campaign himself (45 catches, 556 receiving yards, four touchdowns) as he tore his. ACL during an early November practice. He is expected to return before training camp, at which point he will pair up with rising star AJ Brown.
A year ago, Tennessee thought it would put together an ideal 1-2 punch at the receiver while trading for Jones. The former All-Pro was plagued by injuries but was clearly in decline. The same would not have been said of Woods before his midseason exit. He recorded at least 86 receptions from 2018-2020 while missing just one game. His combination of safe hands, precise route-running and blocking made him one of the more versatile players in his position.
So why did LA consider him consumable? Rapoport cites Woods’ contract – he owed $ 13.5 million this year – and the evolution of the insult and his insult as two factors. The Rams are also still interested in bringing back Odell Beckham, who is a free agent and also rehabilitating a torn ACL. This injury will likely put the OBJ deep into the upcoming Sideline season.
Most teams would be happy with the new tandems of the Titans or Rams.
