A kayaker on Saturday discovered two bodies that were together in a southeast Queensland dam, but police believed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The kayaker found the bodies, swimming about five meters from the shore, at about 3.30pm on Saturday at Gordonbrook Dam, about 170 miles northwest of Brisbane.
Rescue services recovered the bodies Saturday night.
On Sunday, police said the bodies of a local couple – a man in his 50s and a woman in her late 40s – were believed but their identities had not yet been confirmed.
It was possible the couple had been in the water for almost a month, with police hoping to track their movements.
Police said they believed a 2004 white Holden Commodore belonging to the couple had been parked on the dam since Feb. 22.

“Inquiries are being made by Kingaroy and Murgon Criminal Investigation Branch to establish the couple’s identities and the circumstances of their deaths,” police said in a statement.
“Eng postmortem [examination] will be carried out in the coming days. “
