Will the LA Marathon start under rainy skies?

Light rain is expected to greet runners at the start of the 37th annual LA Marathon on Sunday, but the sky will soon be clear to thousands of participants covering the 26.2-mile course.

Between 3pm and 7pm precipitation is expected, with temperatures at the start of the race around 50 degrees, said David Gomberg, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Oxnard.

At noon temperatures will be 68 ° C. Runners can expect winds of 8 to 12 km / h from northwest in the middle to late morning, with gusts up to 15 km / h.

Wheelchair-using participants start the race at 6:30 a.m., followed by elite women runners at 6:45 a.m. and elite men at 6:55 p.m.

“After 7 p.m., it will be partly cloudy, but the rain threat should be over,” Gomberg said.

The marathon is expected to draw about 15,000 runners from around the world to run the course, which winds through some of LA’s iconic neighborhoods. Dozens of roads and freeway ramps will be closed during the race, which begins at Dodger Stadium.
