DHL Express has signed a deal with BP and Neste to build 800m liters of sustainable aviation fuel over the next five years as part of efforts to achieve its environmental goals.
The express company describes the SAF deal as a “significant step towards decarbonising air logistics” and one of the largest SAF dealers in aviation to date.
These dealers, together with the previously announced SAF introduction in the DHL network in San Francisco (SFO), East Midlands (EMA) and Amsterdam (AMS), will exceed 50% of the DHL Express target to achieve 10% SAF blend for each air Transport until 2026.
DHL expects these measures to save about 2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions over the air-fuel life cycle – equivalent to the annual greenhouse gas emissions of about 400,000 passenger cars.
In its Sustainability Roadmap, Deutsche Post DHL Group is committed to using 30% of the SAF blend for all air transport by 2030.

At the same time, we urge politicians to set the right framework for SAF’s market disasters. accelerate the EU and worldwide, including an accounting mechanism that allows flexible SAF procurement and use.
Both suppliers supply SAF produced from waste oil. Such SAF from waste and residues can offer greenhouse gas emission reductions of up to 80% over its life cycle compared to the conventional jet fuel it replaces.
