Gina Cass-Gottlieb begins the term as ACCC president

Competition lawyer Gina Cass-Gottlieb began her term as chair of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission on Monday.

Ms. Cass-Gottlieb has more than 25 years of experience in complex competition issues. She was also a member of the Reserve Bank of Australia Payment Systems Board, which is the regulator of access to payment systems, and the Financial Regulator Assessment Authority.

“We are pleased to welcome Gina to the ACCC. Gina is exceptionally well qualified and her broad experience in many industries will be an asset to the agency’s work,” said ACCC Chief Executive Officer Scott Gregson.

“We look forward to a smooth transition due to Gina’s familiarity with our work and people, as well as the considered handover from Rod.”

Ms. Cass-Gottlieb will be the first female president of the ACCC since it was established as an independent legislative authority in 1995.

“The ACCC is a world-leading regulator with a high-performance, capable and diverse team that is committed to the safety, interests and well-being of consumers and maintaining effective competition throughout the Australian economy,” he said. Mrs. Cass-Gottlieb.

“This work offers important benefits to Australians. I start today the role fully aware and ready for the responsibilities that lead with the ACCC.

“I want to thank my predecessor, Rod Sims, who made a tremendous contribution to the ACCC and who left the organization in very good shape,” Ms Cass-Gottlieb said.

Mr. Sims started as an ACCC Chair in August 2011, and during his tenure successfully pursued much greater penalties for competition and consumer law violations and undertook leading digital platform reporting and regulation.

“It has been an honor to be the President of the ACCC for the last 11 years and I wish Gina all the best in her new role. I hope she will find the work as rewarding as I did,” Mr Sims said.

“I would also like to thank the ACCC staff for their hard work and commitment. I will miss working with such a committed group of people, but I know that they strongly support Gina and continue her excellent work.
