LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – How about a nice Friday night?
As some have tried to have a good time – when a ghost tour of a century-old hospital counts as fun – Friday night’s storms have put a damper on their plans. Paranormal tours of the Waverly Hills Sanatorium were conducted as tornado sirens sounded in Jefferson County.
According to a post on the facility Instagram pagesome guests were forced to flee the hospital by the body fall – a tunnel used to transport corpses when there was a medical facility in the early 1900s.

All the guests of the Waverly Hills were thanked for their cooperation and wished a safe return home.
“To all our guests who were evacuated last night during the tornado warnings and the body fall,” the post said. “Thank you all for your cooperation and understanding. Safety for our customers and staff is our number one priority at all times. We appreciate each and every one of you! For everyone involved, our hearts and prayers go out to you all, we hope that everyone is safe at home.
Waverly Hills Sanatorium opened in 1910 and was used to serve tens of thousands of tuberculosis patients until 1961. Members of the Waverly Hills Historical Society told WAVE in 2019 that between 20,000 and 60,000 people died there from tuberculosis. From 1962 to 1982 it worked as a nursing home.
Waverly Hills is now privately owned and is open for tours. To book one, click here
