Tick Teck, Tick Teck. The time for NHL teams to trade has been slowly declining as Monday marks the 2022 trading deadline.
General managers have had a busy week as candidates try to set up their clubs for a run at the Stanley Cup, while vendors look to send free agents to get some assets back.
Monday is a little less hectic than usual, as a number of notable names have already moved before the deadline. That does not mean, however, that more fireworks on Monday afternoons will not be in store.

When does the 2022 NHL Trading Deadline open?
The deadline to call the General Manager for Action in the league office is 3pm ET on Monday, March 21st. Trades can be announced after the 3 pm deadline as long as they have been delivered before that time.
Can players be traded after the deadline?
Even though there is a specific deadline for trade, teams can still get players from other clubs after March 21st.
Please note that any player traded after the 21st March deadline is not eligible to be placed on a team’s postseason roster. However, they can play the rest of the regular season with their new squad.
The teams that perform these actions post-deadline are typically non-playoff teams looking to get players with concept. Some teams will get players who will be free agents this summer to work out a deal before the free agency meets.
Is the trading deadline always in March?
The NHL trading deadline is typically late February. The March deadline is an exception this year.
With the regular season 2021-22 NHL ending in late April, as opposed to early to mid-April, the deadline has been extended so teams have enough time to determine their deadline strategy. The delay at the end of the regular season is due to the built-in break that the NHL is planning for the 2022 Winter Olympics. The league later chose not to send its players to Beijing.
Who is free on Monday?
Many of the biggest players in the trading block have already found new teams. Ben Chiarot, Claude Giroux, Hampus Lindholm, Mark Giordano and Brandon Hagel were all moved last weekend or last week.
