Governor Thank You Issue Board Of Regents, State Board Of Education Members
PHOENIX – Governor Doug Ducey today elected two community leaders to serve on the Arizona Board of Regents and seven education leaders to run on the State Board of Education.
“The committed members of the Arizona Board of Regents and the State Board of Education are doing incredible work,” Governor Ducey said. “Arizona is grateful to the outgoing members for their service and commitment to student success, and for their constant hand in guiding our educational institutions during the pandemic. Our new board members have great shoes to fill, but I am confident that we will their new energy, fresh ideas and different backgrounds are able to further strengthen the education for our students.
The Arizona Board of Regents is the governing body of the state’s public universities: Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, and University of Arizona. The board provides political guidance in such areas as: academic and student affairs; financial and human resource programs; Student grants, fees, and financial aid programs; University capital development plans; strategic plans; legal affairs; and public and constitutive outreach.
The governor elected the following persons to serve on the board of regents:
Gregg Brewster is a senior sales executive who founded Brewster HealthCare Consulting. He was previously Regional Vice President of Sales and Commercial Services for Owens & Minor, a global healthcare provider. Brewster expertise includes healthcare, supply chain management and transportation. He is a member of the AORN Foundation Board of Directors, as well as an active participant on the Arizona State University Alumni Board.
Doug Goodyear is CEO and a founding partner of DCI Group, an Arizona- and Washington, DC-based public business firm. Over the course of its decades-long tenure, the DCI Group has grown from a single-client startup to one of the largest independent public business owners in the country, with a host of Fortune 500 companies and industry associations as clients. Goodyear has been active in the Phoenix Chapter of the Young Presidents’ Organization and has been an Arizona resident since 1998.
The departing members of the Regents’ Board of Directors include William Ridenour and Ronald Shoopman. Governor Ducey is grateful to each and every one of them for the guidance they have given to the public universities of Arizona during their eight-year term.
The State Board of Education was established by the Arizona Constitution with a mission to develop successful citizens through robust public education. The Council of State monitors the public school system by drawing up policies, setting study courses and collecting data on student performance.
The governor has elected the following persons to serve on the board of directors:
Jason Catanese is an algebra and geometry teacher at the Pueblo Del Sol Elementary School in the Isaac School District. He is also President and Executive Director of the Camp Catanese Foundation and is a co-founder of the Foundation. He is also the Camp Director of Camp Catanese and is a former National Teacher of the Year for Teach For America.
Jenny Clark is the founder and CEO of Love Your School, a non-profit organization that helps families navigate the school options available to them. Clark is passionate about enabling families and schools to share more about the ways Arizona children learn, grow, and love their education – whether it’s in District, Charter, Private, Online, Homeschool, Micro School, Learning Pod or to receive an Arizona Empowerment Scholarship.
Jacqui Clay currently serving as Cochise County Superintendent of Schools. Clay was a teacher, assistant director and director of career technical education. She also served as Army Command Sergeant Major for 25 years.
Dr. Scott Hagerman has served as Superintendent of the Tanque Verde School District since 2017. Dr. Hagerman’s experience includes his current leadership as Superintendent of the Continental Elementary School District, and former positions as Director of Extraordinary Education for Tucson Unified School District, Director of the Kellond Elementary School and as a schoolteacher.
Katherine Haley has nearly 20 years of experience in public policy and philanthropy. Over the course of her career, she has expanded educational opportunities, built coalitions to foster federal policies that have improved school choice, and strengthened students’ willingness to work.
Julia Meierson is the founder and executive director of Vista College Prep, a high-performing charter school with three locations spread across South Phoenix and Maryvale. Born and raised in central Phoenix, Meyerson graduated from Teach For America College and taught in Brooklyn, New York.
Karla Phillips-Krivickas has over 20 years of experience in state and federal politics. The CEO and Founder of Think Inclusion, Phillips-Krivickas uses her unique professional and personal experience to advise educators on healthy policies and best practices to promote academic achievement for all students, including those with disabilities.
Department members in the State Council of Education include Calvin Baker, Jill Broussard, Michele Kaye, Janice Mak, Luke Narducci, Armando Ruiz and Patricia Welborn.
Governor Ducey is grateful to each of these members for their leadership and service to the state during their tenure on this critically important board of directors.
