Match preview: Harrogate Town (A)

The Leyton Orient are looking to build on Saturday’s victory over Rochdale when they travel to take on Harrogate Town on Tuesday (19:00).

The SULPHURITE

Simon Weaver’s side got off to a great start in their second season in the Football League. Harrogate has won three of the first four league games to see the Yorkshire side at the top of the league in September. Harrogate’s victories began to turn into drawings throughout September, drawing Newport, Crawley Town and Stevenage as they lost to Port Vale. Harrogate Kick started October with back-to-back victories against Oldham in a 6-1 defeat over Scunthorpe United.

After that impressive win, form began to take shape as Harrogate lost eight of its next twelve league games, winning just two wins against Walsall and Carlisle. This run of form fell the Yorkshire side by 2nd zu 13th in the league.

Since the turn of the year, the city has started to collect more points and lose four of its first eleven league games. On that run came two of their three wins against Bradford City, while the others came against a struggling Oldham Athletic.

March has seen the city so far non-profit after losing three on the jump with a draw on either side of that run. Their last match they stole a point at home against Walsall thanks to a 91st Minute compensation.

Orient came into the game after winning just their first league game of the year and were unbeaten in five games. The victory for the O’s would secure for the second time this season back-to-back victories in the league. The last time Orient won relegation was in early September following a 4-0 win at home to Oldham with a 3-1 win over Bristol Rovers.

Key players

Jack Muldoon played most of his non-league career for Brigg Town, Sheffield, Glapwell, Alfreton, Stocksbridge Park Steels, North Ferriby and Worksop before making his first professional move to Rochdale in 2014. Muldoon had to stop his work as a plasterer to begin the move. After three appearances for The Dale, Muldoon was released and joined Lincoln City in the National League. In his second season with The Imps he won the National League title and was also part of the famous Lincoln team that reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and also started in that quarter-final against Arsenal.

Muldoon did not join Lincoln in League Two and remained in the National League with AFC fylde. One season later, he joined Harrogate Town. In 2020, he helped the Yorkshire side win the National League play-offs against every chance and won the FA Trophy the following year. So far this season, the Muldoon has scored 11 league goals for Harrogate.
