The world’s biggest celebrity football match will return this summer as a football aid to UNICEF for the London Stadium.
A number of ex-professional football players, A-list celebrities, and other household names will go on the field to show off their skills at the ball and most importantly raise money for some of the most disadvantaged children in the world.
Some familiar faces are coming back for the game but there will also be some debutants coming to the turf for the 11th installment of the charity match.
After Robbie Williams was founded in 2006, UNICEF’s Football Aid has shown some of the biggest names in the world, all of whom have come together for one important cause.
England will take on World XI in an 11-a-side match at West Ham United, and here are the celebrities who have been announced so far.
His football help for UNICEF’s debut as England captain makes singer-songwriter Liam Payne, accompanied by former England internationals Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, and Fara Williams.
Actors Lucien Laviscount and Joe Cole – from Emily in Paris and Peaky Blinders respectively – will join the cast, along with musician Tom Grennan, presenter and social media creator Chunkz, and comedian Alex Brooker, who will be the first physically challenged contestant.
At the helm of England, manager Harry Redknapp and David Seaman will be the goalkeeping coaches.
The home team will face Arsène Wenger’s World XI, captain of returning skipper Usain Bolt. The eight-time Olympic gold medalist has led his side to victory in 2021 and is looking to advance the team in terms of overall winnings.
As it stands, England and World XI are tied for five wins in a row, which means that this year the match will take a team lead.
Bolt will star alongside Line of Duty Martin Compston, comedian Mo Gilligan, former football professionals Patrice Evra and Robbie Keane, and presenter and singer-songwriter Chelcee Grimes, who also plays for Merseyrail Ladies.
England legend and television presenter Alex Scott will return as pitch-side reporter. The live show is hosted by Dermot O’Leary, starring Maya Jama, who is also returning as a studio pundit.
