Price increases in the US ease slightly in April

The pace of price increases in the US eased slightly last month as the cost of gasoline, used cars and clothing declined.

The annual pace of inflation was 8.3% in April, up from 8.5% in the previous month, the Labor Department said.

That was the first drop in months, but the inflation rate remained at a multi-decade high.

The cost of groceries, housing and items such as airline tickets continued to rise, putting pressure on policymakers to curb price hikes.
