Royal Mail managers announce strike dates

Royal Mail managers across the UK are set to go on strike this month, which could delay deliveries, in a dispute over wages and job cuts.

The Unite union said 2,400 managers will work to rule between July 15-19 and engage in strike action from July 20-22.

According to Unite, deliveries and some services, such as tracked items, are delayed during these periods.

Royal Mail said there was “no reason” for a strike.

The strike action comes above Royal Mail’s plans to cut 700 jobs and cut wages by up to £7,000, Unite said.

Union general secretary Sharon Graham said Royal Mail was “inundated with cash but it puts profits and dividends first for the few before fulfilling its public service responsibilities.

“There is not a single aspect of these cuts that is about improving customer service. They are driven solely by a culture of greed and profiteering that has seized a 500-year-old essential service and nearly ruined it,” he continued.

“Our members are determined to force the company to take a different path and they have the full support of Unite.”
