Energy bills could rise ahead of expected October surge, Britain’s energy regulator has revealed.
Ofgem and industry body Energy UK said it was “possible” for suppliers to increase customer debits before the new energy price cap comes into effect.
Households are braced for a sharp rise in energy bills in the winter, with warnings the average bill could reach as much as £4,200.
British Gas has told the BBC it will not raise prices until October.
