A union has announced that assistants at four Scottish universities are on strike over pay.
At Glasgow, Glasgow Caledonian, Napier and Robert Gordon Universities, Unison members will strike for five days.
The promotion will take place from September 19th to 21st and October 3rd to 4th.
The union said about 1,100 workers would take action, including cleaners, library staff, IT support staff and security officials. University teachers are not involved in the dispute.
The strikes come as many students return to university at the start of the semester.
Lorcan Mullen, head of higher education and training at Unison Scotland, said the current conditions were “harming underpaid staff” at a time when the cost of living was rising.
He said: “The wage differentials in this largely publicly funded sector are obscene.
“UCEA (The Universities and Colleges Employers Association), the Scottish Government, individual universities and industry leaders have a moral responsibility to act with urgency and seriousness against the cost of living crisis in Scottish universities.”

UCEA has previously said it has done its best to support staff in very difficult circumstances.
This includes working with employers to implement a wage increase for those on the lowest incomes.
Unison has warned that other institutions could join the strike action later in the autumn.
Hundreds of Unison members at the University of Dundee will also be on strike for two weeks from Monday September 19 in a separate dispute over pension benefits.
