The increase in regular salaries still hasn’t kept pace with the rising cost of living, the latest official figures show.
According to the Office for National Statistics, wages rose by 5.2% annually between May and July, but were outpaced by rising prices.
Inflation – a measure of price increases – remains at a 40-year high of 10.1%, meaning the ‘real value’ of wages is falling.
The latest inflation figure, to be released on Wednesday, is expected to come in higher.
