Sainsbury’s has announced it will hire 18,000 temporary workers to support the supermarket over the Christmas period.
The company said it is hiring for 15,000 positions at Sainsbury’s, 2,000 at Argos and 1,000 in its logistics division, which runs its warehouses.
Sainsbury’s said supermarket and Argos recruits would be paid £10.25 an hour, while staff in London were paid £11.30.
Seasonal workers also receive free food and a discount card during their shift.
Available jobs include roles serving customers, restocking shelves, and packing and delivering online orders.
Sainsbury’s warehouse staff ensure products get to supermarkets across the country.
Angie Risley, HR director at Sainsbury’s Group, said the holiday season will be “busy” as more customers do their shopping in stores.
“This investment in service ensures customers have an easy and convenient way to find everything they need to celebrate this year,” she added.
“Our new higher base rate [of pay]Colleague discounts and free food during shifts ensure colleagues are well rewarded for their hard work.”
