Energy bills push inflation to 41-year high

Energy costs are driving prices up in the UK at their highest level in 41 years and continuing to put pressure on household budgets.

Inflation, the rate at which prices rise, reached 11.1% for the year to October, up from 10.1% in September.

Rising energy bills, as well as higher food and transport costs, were behind the recent rise in prices.

The rising cost of living is weighing on household budgets and is likely to push the UK into recession this year.
