Around 100,000 civil servants are to go on strike on February 1, the union for public and commercial services has announced.
Union members in 124 government departments, as well as several other bodies, will drop out.
The lawsuit is an escalation of a longstanding dispute over pay and working conditions.
PCS demands a 10% pay rise, better pensions, job security and no cuts in notice periods.
