Royal Mail and the Communication Workers Union (CWU) have reached an “in principle” agreement on pay and employment conditions.
The board of the CWU will meet next week to review the deal, the postal company and union said in a joint statement.
If accepted, it is then voted on by union members.
The agreement could spell the end of a longstanding dispute over workers’ wages, jobs and working conditions.
The joint statement read: “After almost a year of talks, Royal Mail and the Communication Workers’ Union (CWU) are pleased to announce that they have reached an agreement in principle.
“The proposed agreement will now be reviewed by the union’s executive board before being voted on by union members.
CWU General Secretary Dave Ward and Deputy General Secretary Andy Furey said: “On the basis that the negotiators’ agreement is endorsed by the postal management, we will put in place a full communications plan to engage members.
“Thank you for your support and patience. It got us to this point.”
