Blue Raiders Softball had some late Inning Heroics on Sunday, shot four runes in the fifth to tie the Southern Miss and then shot the winning run into extra innings for the rubber match 6-5 and the series 2-1 to take.

There were plenty of heroics around the field for Blue Raiders Sunday, with an unassisted double play out Kaylee Richetto and an escape aid of Amaya Harris holds USM from the scoreboard after the tie, and a Laura Mehler Triple for MT to pull within one in the fifth innings and continue the rally.

“I probably would not have given you a nickel for us in the middle of the game, but we came back and rallied to mark four runs and never stopped fighting, and things went awry in the end,” head coach Jeff Breeden said Post Spill. “I’m proud of all our young kids for coming up big and hitting the ball.”
MT will meet Tennessee State on Wednesday at home against MT before traveling to Marshall this weekend for their second C-USA series of the spring.
Baseball comes big in the seventh inning on Sunday
I spent most of my weekend on The Reese watching the Blue Raiders play Old Dominion at the 2022 C-USA Opener for Middle Tennessee. And while the team suffered two hard losses on Friday and Saturday, Sunday afternoon was a pure rave of a day as MT shot eight runes at the end of the seventh to come back to win 13-5 over ODU.
The lower part of the seventh, which saw 13 Blue Raider batteries walk up to the plate, was illuminated by a Grand Slam of Jackson Gallowaythe first Grand Slam Tennessee has had since the 2019 season.
