Neeraj Khemlani is president and co-head of CBS News and CBS television stations. He began his new role in May 2021.
Khemlani and Wendy McMahon, also president and co-head of CBS television and news stations, are in charge of a newly created division that unifies CBS News, CBS News Digital and CBS television stations. Together they have editorial and business oversight of CBS News broadcasts and operations; the CBS News Streaming Network, CBS News’ premier streaming news service; local CBS news networks; cbsnews.com; 28 CBS-owned stations and their digital extensions; CBS News Audio; and CBS News affiliate service Newspath.
Khemlani is an award-winning journalist and an experienced cross-platform news and media executive who brings to the paper a diverse background in television, digital media, cable networking and local news.
Prior to joining CBS News, Khemlani served as Executive Vice President and Deputy Group Leader at Hearst Newspapers, overseeing 3,000 employees who publish print and digital subscription products for 24 days and 52 weekly in cities across the country.
He has held senior positions since joining the company in 2009, including the chairman and group leader of Hearst Entertainment & Syndication, the task force responsible for Hearst’s cable networking partnerships with Disney, including ESPN. and A + E Networks, as well as production and digital companies. video and music reproduction companies. During his tenure at Hearst, Khemlani also served as creative director, where he worked to create products, content offerings, and new user experiences for the company’s global brands.

Khemlani began his television career at ABC News as an associate producer on “Peter Jennings Reporting.” He also produced segments for “Nightline”, “Good Morning America” and ABC News specials.
He has been responsible for getting many exclusive interviews and stories around the world. Khemlani co-produced a three-part series for Dan Rather explaining what Osama bin Laden and his associates were doing in the summer before 9/11. Khemlani gave a full interview with Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi. Khemlani also reported from the former Soviet Union to reveal the existence of a secret city built inside a Siberian mountain that still produced plutonium even though the scientists and soldiers guarding the stock barely charged.
Khemlani has told stories of numerous conflicts, including the Afghan war, the Sudanese civil war, the U.S. fight against the Cali and Medellin drug cartels, the Balkan conflict, and the U.S. invasion of Haiti.
Khemlani also produced 60 Minutes features about Dean Kamen and his human transporter Segway, Jay-Z, the Grateful Dead, Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai, a prolific team of Florida jewelry thieves called Dinner Set Gang, Bill Gates and the future of video. games, and the president of General Motors, who introduced his hydrogen car to the program.
Khemlani Journalism has been awarded the Edward R. Murrow Prize for Investigative Journalism and an Alfred I. du Pont-Columbia University Prize for coverage of the war in Bosnia.
He began his career as a newspaper reporter, contributing to the New York Times and the Syracuse Post-Standard.
Khemlani earned a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University. He has a degree in communication from Cornell University. He is married to ABC News author and former Heather Cabot, and they are the proud parents of teenage twins.
