Montreal heads toward weekend with violent Friday night, three attempted murders

Montreal police say they are investigating three separate assassination attempts that happened almost at the same time late Friday night.

Sgt. Raphaël Bergeron, a spokesman for the Montreal police, said a 19-year-old man, who was unknown to police, was stabbed with a knife around 10:15 p.m. in the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district.

He was taken to hospital due to upper body injuries, but his condition is stable.

Bergeron said a few minutes later, two men were shot several times, at 10:30 p.m., at various locations in the east of the city.

The first of the two, a 35-year-old man, has to undergo some surgery, but his condition is stable.

Police say the second victim, another 19-year-old, was sent to hospital for serious injuries to his upper body, but his condition is also stable. Both victims are known to police.
