The plot finished sixth at NCAA Wrestling Championships

Updated brackets

DETROIT

– Oklahoma State Dustin Plott finished his run at the 2022 NCAA Wrestling Championships Saturday morning in sixth place in the 174-pound bracket to mark the highest finish of his career.

A sophomore from Tuttle, Oklahoma, plotted to end the event with a 4-3 record in Detroit and win his first All-America honors. He ended his season with a 21-6 overall record that included 13 wins over ranked opponents and six bonus-point wins.

Plott’s path to the podium this week began with two wins in the championship bracket, before he made a quarter-final decision at number 3. He responded with a come-from-behind, sudden victory over No. 7 Ethan Smith of Ohio State and then a big decision over No. 10 Clay Laut of North Carolina won Saturday to reach the consolation semifinal round.

The round pitted him against No. 4 Hayden Hidlay of NC State, where an 8-2 decision by Hidlay sent the plot to the fifth game to beat third-seed Logan Massa of Michigan for the second time in two days. confront.

Plot scored one point better against Massa than he did on Friday, but once again fell in a decision for the five-time NCAA Qualifier, three-time All-American and U.S. Senior Nationals champion, 5-1.

“It feels good (to be an All-American),” the plot said after securing the honor Friday night. “… I still think it’s a little more what I did not go out there. I think I’ll always feel that way. It’s cool and I’m glad I did it, but my goal for and coming to a tournament is never just for space, and anything other than the first is a bit of a disappointment.

Oklahoma State Wrestling has now won 483 All-America honors in its history, which is far more than any other program, and OSU Coach John Schmitz now has his wrestling coach to 150 All-America honors in his career.

As a team, the Cowboys are in 14th place with 38.5 points and one more session at the event.

The sixth and final session of the 2022 NCAA Wrestling Championships kicks off at 6pm on Saturday night as OSU 133-pound Daton Fix counts for his first NCAA title. Fans can watch the action live on ESPN, ESPN.com or via the ESPN app, and Cowboy fans can follow on Twitter via @CowboyWrestling.
