A three-game road trip came to an end for the Pittsburgh Penguins in Arizona on Saturday and now they’re back to the friendly frontiers of the PPG Painta Arena, even if it’s just short. The Columbus Blue Jackets are in town Tuesday night for another Metro Division showdown, then it’s back on the road for a New York swing against the Buffalo Sabers followed by a potential playoff preview with the New York Rangers.

Evgeni Malkin shot the match winner on Saturday and he was just randomly targeted for the match, delivering a nice little clip of the goal and fire.

With just about six weeks left in the regular season, potential first-round playoff opponents for the Penguins are starting to get clearer. While anything can happen in playoff time, some games are more favorable than others. [Pensburgh]
After a 20-game goalless draw, Kasperi Kapanen finally broke through against the Coyotes, scoring the Penguins’ first goal of the competition. His fire was rather muffled, but he gave his piece a small kiss of gratitude. [Pittsburgh Post-Gazette]
Mark Freidman was a revelation to the Penguins on the blue line this season and he was rewarded with a two-year contract extension. The deal is one-sided and will be worth $ 775,000 against the salary cap that will start next season. [Penguins]
